FREEDIVING
FILM GROUP is a consortium of freediving, extreme sports, and
documentary videographers and film makers that are actively involved
in projects which expose the public to the underwater world. What are
freediving films? Freediving films are movies and programs filmed only
using freediving:single breath-held dives. An
underwater film dive club? Yes, and no. Our expeditions are about
professional underwater video. We offer the perfect dive club for
underwater video. Non-commercial underwater video competitions should
provide needed exposure to film-makers within the dive community.
Underwater videography contests enable amateurs and pros to further
their love of adventure and stimulate healthy competition. Whether fish species, sport fishing,
pelagics, dolphins, whales, or seals or the people who live tied
to the sea, FFG retains all its projects as digital stock. Looking
for white seabass stock footage? Something very rare? If we don't have
it we'll go out and shoot it for you. As well, we are
pushing hard for professional underwater video contests, not just
video expeditions you pay $3000 to go on.
|
| In the traditional
sense FFG is not an underwater video dive club. Members are cameramen who help each
other in their video and film projects, each individual retaining
rights to his/her footage, and footage can be combined to be made
into documentaries, programs, or videos. We are not limited to underwater
video; yet, it is our specialty. We would like to be considered an
underwater video freediving dive club dedicated to extreme sports
and rare species video capture.
Breath held diving (Apnea) is
a way of life that instills discipline and awareness, and it is
the most essential element to capturing large or rare species on
film and video. All group members are certified divers as
well.
Almost all the footage seen in this
website was shot while freediving. We do not eschew tank diving;
we just feel that the best core activity from which to build is
freediving. As well, we will employ scooters, hookah lines,
and traditional tank techniques to augment our freediving reels.
Also, a small portion of our new material was shot by fine tank
diving video enthusiasts we are representing. Underwater student
films interest us very much.

FFG is aggressively
seeking new membership of the highest caliber. Members need not own
boats, be well-heeled doctors, or live in our local area. We are
also interested in underwater student films and repping film student
underwater video specialists.
FFG is located in Los Angeles,
California. Please Note, what we are doing can be dangerous and
demanding so members need to be in the best physical and mental
health.
All one needs to do to be considered
for membership is to submit a 2-4 minute VHS [NTSC] tape.
|
| If you are chosen
for membership you will be included in our list of videographers and
film makers, and you will be able to compete in formal and informal
contests set up by our group.
You will receive a list of our
events and, if you so choose, we will feature your clips and your
personal history in our website. Most important, there are no dues
or annual fees.
Members may join our expeditions,
edit and train on our power PC, and can receive representation that
will further their efforts to see their footage bought and sold. Our
annual underwater video competition, The Catalina U/W Video Rodeo
has seen the list of sponsors grow over the last 2 years.
Our three trailerable boats can range
from the Sea of Cortez to Santa Barbara, California, and we welcome
international videographers to join our group, as we are planning
many international projects as national.
